Aligning Knowledge Anatomical Representation from GALEN CCAM with UMLS Semantic Network: Method, Results and Convergence of Terminological Systems

This work tries to align the knowledge representation of Anatomy with Galen modelling of the French new coding system of surgical procedures named CCAM and the UMLS semantic network. We use a mixed method lexical and semantic to align the semantic categories of Galen CCAM with the UMLS semantic types. The matching rate is high and the 22 % of non matched Galen CCAM descriptors are depending upon the semantic categories .The rate is higher with very specific meaning related to a surgical view as the approach. Our results support the utilisation of a semantic tool in addition to the lexical approach. They confirm other works on the possibility of convergence between terminological systems by the association of linguistic and ontology methods.
